These two pages are from my new book on Stéphane Grappelli's Gypsy Jazz Violin (Mel Bay 21539BCD). An important aspect of this fiddle style is bowing patterns. These are different from classical or bluegrass bowings. Grappelli uses three basic patterns: separate, chain and jazz bowing. He then mixes them with longer slurs (see the examples). I practice my bowings on scales, in this case a G major scale that we all know. I've added one extra note to the scale so that it fits the bar better (8 instead of 7 notes).
